now and laters candy

Now & Laters: Who cares? You can eat them now OR SAVE THEM UNTIL LATER! WOW!

It was a brilliant marketing scheme: create a candy that comes in many small pieces. That way, people can enjoy it sporadically throughout the day. You're not committed to eating the whole thing when you buy Now & Laters...you can enjoy them immediately, or you can wait for several hours! Incredible.

As far as I know*, the Now & Later candy line spawned a plethora of related candies. Small, individually wrapped candies like: Rolos, Reese's miniature cups, York Peppermint Patties, Gum, and now - the Lifesavers Mints. They do a fine job of emulating the original Now and Laters strategy. However, Now and Laters employ a unique strategy that is yet to be copied perfectly: The waxed-paper wrapper. Starburst candy is a freakin' joke. They are the Now and Later's ill-willed doppelgänger. Don't be fooled. Once you get past a Starburst's (blatantly stolen) wax-paper façade, you'll know the truth.

What really blows my mind is this: Now and Laters are the main reason that Trick-or-Treating is so successful! Small, potent candy items are invaluable to the Halloween experience. Three cheers for Now and Laters! What a shame that Now and Laters are not really even edible. Here's an experience similar to eating a N & L: Make a caulk line on the hood of your car. Let it dry in the summer heat for 3 weeks, then try to eat it. Viola! A Now and Later!
